Throughout this period, I learned the importance of taking initiative in achieving success as not only an intern, but as a trusted employee to help make someone’s dream a reality. Despite the challenging learning curve of diving into WordPress and comprehending all that goes into beginning a business, I always made sure to step up and speak with my supervisors and co-designers to align our objectives with the business’s goals, and was constantly seeking feedback all throughout the design process.

Background
The general duty assigned to us was this: create a website for a up and coming travel agency, one that not only allowed users to book and plan for various types of trips and travel plans, but also, help support various causes and charities through the use of these services.
Our tasks were to create a easy to use interface, a appealing layout, and a experience that was fun and easy to use, and offered readily available information and assistance. My responsibilities in particular were creating mockups and prototypes, and sometimes, even working with my team live on the WordPress pages, making sure every link worked and every image was in a good place.
A secondary goal, but just as important, was linking the website to support various humanitarian charities, charities that would benefit from every link clicked and every trip booked through the website. This added need to put some more good into the world made this experience much more than I had thought it would be, and it not only taught me the importance of being a dependable, hard working intern, but also, the importance of teamwork and of staying within the guidelines of a client’s vision, as it could be beneficial to more than just them.
The previously named ‘Vacation Grace’ was finally launched in 2021, a year after my internship period had expired. Now sporting the name ellislopeztravel.com, it remains in service and has seen much business and interface overhauls since my time on there. This experience taught me that, again, with the vision being the most important think of any project, a vision requires aligning design objectives with business goals, and constant contact and feedback through the entire process is the way to realize this vision, and with that, it can become more than you could dream of: it could become a reality. And it is for that I feel nothing but gratefulness for having had the chance to be a part of that process.
